When the cut is locked, editorial hands sound an AAF with handles and the work starts: the dialogue is cleaned, lines are re-recorded, footsteps and props are performed to picture, every door and car and explosion is built, the score arrives, and a re-recording mixer balances the three in a cinema-sized room. Most of these people are employed by facilities rather than freelance, and MFJF's courses are clear that the entry route is the post-production runner, and that of the three routes out of running this is the hardest, because modern theatres need fewer hands.
