A kind of film company

Commercials and music video

Commercials and music video companies: who works there and what each of them does

A commercials production company is a small permanent office with a roster of freelance directors and a churn of jobs running through it. An agency owns the idea, the company wins it with a treatment and a bid, and a one to three day shoot makes it.

Six to eight weeks is the usual span from the script arriving to a finished film: the treatment and the bid go back within days, the award comes in week two, pre-production takes two or three weeks, the shoot is one to three days and post is another two or three weeks. In the same period the company has probably pitched on six other scripts. Music videos run through the same desks, with tiny budgets and far more companies pitching. Only a handful of people are permanent, which is why each of them matters.
